Chai spice mix
- 3 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 tsp ground ginger
- 2 tsp ground cardamom
- 1 tsp ground allspice
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
Chai cupcakes
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 Tbsp chai spice mix
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup brewed chai tea
- 1/2 cup whole milk
Chai buttercream
- 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter
- 1 Tbsp chai spice mix
- pinch of kosher salt
- 4 1/2 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- Combine spice mix – In a small bowl, combine all chai spice mix ingredients. Set aside.
- Prepare – Preheat oven, prepare muffin tins.
- Make cupcake batter – Combine dry ingredients, mix wet ingredients, then combine all.
- Bake – Fill muffin tins, bake until done, then cool.
- Make buttercream – Beat butter, add spice mix and sugar, beat until fluffy.
- Frost cupcakes – Pipe frosting onto cooled cupcakes, garnish as desired.
Notes
- For a stronger chai flavor, increase the amount of chai spice mix in the cupcakes and frosting.
- Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results.
