Description
This Pear Grilled Cheese recipe offers a delicious twist on the classic comfort food by combining the sweet and juicy flavor of fresh pears with gooey melted cheese. Perfect for a quick lunch or snack, this sandwich features a crisp, golden-brown exterior and a luscious, melty interior with a hint of fruity sweetness.
Ingredients
Scale
Bread and Butter
- 2 slices bread (rye, sourdough, white, whole wheat, or French bread suggested)
- 2 teaspoons butter
Cheese and Fruit
- 2 slices cheese (options include mozzarella, cheddar, pepper jack, colby jack, Monterey jack, or brie)
- 1/2 pear, cored and sliced (peeled if desired)
Instructions
- Prepare the pear: Core and slice the pear into thin slices. You may peel the pear if you prefer a smoother texture.
- Butter the bread: Spread butter evenly on the outsides of both slices of bread to ensure a golden, crispy crust when grilled.
- Assemble the sandwich: On the unbuttered side of one bread slice, layer one slice of cheese, then place the pear slices on top, followed by the second slice of cheese. This layering helps trap the pear inside for easier eating. Place the second slice of bread on top with the buttered side facing out.
- Grill the sandwich: Place the sandwich in a preheated skillet over medium heat. Grill until the bottom side is golden brown and the cheese begins to melt, about 4 minutes. Carefully flip the sandwich and grill the other side until equally golden brown, approximately another 4 minutes.
- Rest and serve: Remove the sandwich from the skillet and allow it to rest for about one minute. Then cut it in half and serve warm for the best gooey, fruity taste experience.
Notes
- Cheese: Use any good melting cheese such as mozzarella, cheddar, pepper jack, colby jack, Monterey jack, or brie for best results.
- Bread: Rye, sourdough, white, whole wheat, or French bread all work well and add unique flavors to your sandwich.
- Cooking Tip: Cooking over medium heat is key to melting the cheese thoroughly without burning the bread, ensuring a perfect texture.
