Description

Memaw’s Sausage Bundles are a delightful appetizer featuring savory pork sausage blended with creamy chive and onion cream cheese, all wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough and baked to golden perfection. Perfect for parties or a snack, these bite-sized bundles are easy to prepare and delicious when served warm with a tangy dijon mustard dip.

Ingredients

Scale

Sausage Mixture

  • 8 oz. regular bulk pork sausage
  • 1/2 cup chive and onion cream cheese spread

Dough

  • 1 (8-oz.) can crescent rolls

Optional

  • Dijon mustard, for dipping

Instructions

  1. Cook the sausage: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a medium nonstick skillet over medium-high heat, cook the 8 oz. of bulk pork sausage. Use a wooden spoon to crumble the sausage as it cooks, stirring frequently until the sausage is cooked through and no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Once done, transfer the cooked sausage to a medium bowl and let it cool for about 5 minutes.
  2. Mix sausage with cream cheese: Add 1/2 cup of chive and onion cream cheese spread to the cooled sausage. Stir until the mixture is thoroughly combined and creamy.
  3. Prepare the dough: Unroll the can of crescent rolls onto a flat surface and press it into a 12 by 9-inch rectangle. Firmly press the perforations together to seal, creating a continuous sheet of dough. Then, cut this dough into 24 squares, each about 2 by 2 inches in size.
  4. Form the bundles: Spoon about one heaping teaspoon of the sausage and cream cheese mixture onto the center of each dough square. Bring the four corners of the dough square up and slightly overlap them at the center, twisting and pinching the edges to seal each bundle securely. Place each sealed bundle on an ungreased baking sheet, spacing them evenly.
  5. Bake the bundles: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the sausage bundles until they are golden brown and cooked through, which should take approximately 10 to 12 minutes.
  6. Serve: Remove the bundles from the oven and serve warm. Optionally, provide dijon mustard on the side for dipping to add an extra layer of tangy flavor.

Notes

  • Be sure to press the crescent roll perforations firmly to avoid any filling leakage during baking.
  • Allow the cooked sausage to cool slightly before mixing with cream cheese to prevent melting the cream cheese too much.
  • These bundles are best served fresh out of the oven for the crispiest texture.
  • For a spicier kick, consider adding a pinch of cayenne pepper or your favorite seasoning to the sausage mixture.
  • Can be reheated in the oven or air fryer for best texture retention.
