Description
Delightfully spooky and sweet, these Jack Skellington Candy Apples combine tart Granny Smith apples dipped in smooth white chocolate and decorated with black icing to recreate the iconic face from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Perfect for Halloween or themed parties, these candy apples are as fun to make as they are to eat.
Ingredients
Scale
For the White Chocolate Coating
- 2 cups white chocolate chips
- 2 Tbsp. coconut oil
- 4 Granny Smith apples
For the Black Icing Decoration
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tsp. corn syrup
- 2 Tbsp. milk
- Black food coloring
Instructions
- Melt White Chocolate: In a large bowl, combine the white chocolate chips and coconut oil. Melt them together until smooth and fully combined, using a microwave in short bursts or a double boiler, stirring frequently to avoid burning.
- Dip Apples: Insert sticks into the apples, then dip each apple into the melted white chocolate, ensuring it is completely coated. Place the coated apples onto a baking tray lined with a cooling rack to allow excess coating to drip off. Refrigerate for 10 minutes or until the coating is hardened.
- Prepare Black Icing: In another large bowl, mix together powdered sugar, milk, corn syrup, and black food coloring until you get a smooth, pipeable consistency. Transfer the icing into a piping bag or a resealable plastic bag with a small corner snipped off.
- Decorate Apples: Pipe the eyes, nose, and lips onto the hardened white chocolate-coated apples to resemble Jack Skellington’s face. Be precise with your design for the best effect.
- Set Decorations: Allow the decorated apples to sit at room temperature or refrigerate for another 10 minutes to let the black icing harden completely before serving.
Notes
- Use fresh, firm Granny Smith apples for the best texture and tart flavor that balances the sweetness.
- Adjust the amount of black food coloring depending on the intensity of black desired for decoration.
- Ensure the white chocolate is fully melted and smooth to get a nice even coating.
- Work quickly when dipping apples to prevent the white chocolate from hardening before coating is complete.
- Store the finished candy apples in the refrigerator for up to 2 days to keep them fresh.
