Chicken and Marinade
- 3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 batch of Honey Dijon Chicken Marinade (see below)
Buns and Cheese
- 6 pretzel buns or whole grain hamburger buns
- 6 slices Swiss cheese
Additional Toppings
- 6 slices cooked bacon
- Lettuce and tomato slices (optional)
Honey Dijon Chicken Marinade
- 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Prepare Chicken: Place each chicken breast on a cutting board and slice horizontally to create two thin cutlets, resulting in 6 pieces. Use a sharp chef’s knife and apply steady pressure to prevent tearing.
- Marinate Chicken: Place the chicken cutlets in a large freezer bag with the Honey Dijon marinade. Seal tightly, toss gently to coat evenly, and refrigerate for about 1 hour to absorb flavors.
- Make Honey Dijon Sauce: Transfer the marinade to a small saucepan, bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then simmer for 5 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
- Cook Chicken: Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium heat (around 400°F). Grill the chicken for about 8 minutes total, flipping once halfway through, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F or juices run clear.
- Assemble Sandwiches: Place each cooked chicken cutlet on the bottom half of a bun. Top with a slice of Swiss cheese, broken pieces of bacon, and drizzle with the cooled Honey Dijon sauce. Add lettuce and tomato if desired, then cover with the top bun.
- Serve: Serve immediately while warm, and enjoy the perfect blend of smoky, tangy, and savory flavors.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the marinade.
- Ensure the grill is properly preheated for even cooking.
- You can prepare the honey Dijon sauce in advance and refrigerate until ready to serve.
- Adjust the salt level in the marinade based on personal taste preference.
