Ingredients
Scale
Cereal and Snack Mix
- 4 cups Corn Chex
- 4 cups Wheat Chex
- 2 cups cinnamon Teddy Grahams
- 2 cups candy corn and/or candy pumpkins
- 2 cups chocolate-covered pretzels
- 2 cups salted sweet potato chips (such as Terra)
- 1 cup Reese’s pieces
Coating Mixture
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 6 Tbsp light brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Combine Dry Ingredients: Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine the Corn Chex, Wheat Chex, and cinnamon Teddy Grahams.
- Prepare Butter Mixture: In a smaller bowl, whisk together the melted butter, light brown sugar, ground cinnamon, kosher salt, and pure vanilla extract until smooth.
- Coat Cereal Mixture: Drizzle about one-third of the butter mixture over the cereal and Teddy Grahams mixture. Toss thoroughly to coat all pieces evenly. Repeat this process with the remaining butter mixture in thirds until everything is well coated.
- Spread on Baking Sheets: Divide the coated mixture evenly between two unlined rimmed baking sheets. Spread it out into an even layer to ensure proper toasting.
- Bake and Toss: Place the baking sheets in the oven. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes, tossing the mix every 15 minutes. This toasts the mixture evenly and crisps it up without burning.
- Cool and Add Candy: Remove the baking sheets from the oven and allow the Chex Mix to cool completely. Once cooled, gently mix in the candy corn or candy pumpkins, chocolate-covered pretzels, salted sweet potato chips, and Reese’s pieces.
- Make Ahead and Store: This Chex Mix can be prepared up to two weeks in advance. Store it in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain freshness and crunch.
Notes
- Stir the mixture every 15 minutes while baking to ensure even toasting and prevent burning.
- Use unlined baking sheets for better crispness; parchment paper is not recommended for this recipe.
- You can substitute candy types based on preferences or availability, such as using Halloween-themed M&Ms instead of Reese’s pieces.
- For best results, allow the mix to cool completely before adding the candy to prevent melting or sogginess.
- Store in an airtight container to maintain freshness and crunch for up to two weeks.
