Description

These festive Grinch Pretzel Rods combine crunchy pretzels wrapped in soft caramel, coated in vibrant green white chocolate, and decorated with red candy hearts and green sugar sprinkles. They are a delightful and easy-to-make holiday treat perfect for parties and gifting.

Ingredients

Scale

Caramel Pretzel Rods

  • 8 pretzel rods
  • 8 soft Werther’s caramel chews, unwrapped

White Chocolate Coating

  • 1½ cups white chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 6 drops green food coloring

Decoration

  • 8 candy hearts or large heart sprinkles
  • 3 tablespoons green sugar sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Caramel: Roll each soft caramel chew between your hands or on a table until it stretches to approximately 6 inches long.
  2. Wrap Caramel Around Pretzels: Starting at the top of each pretzel rod, wrap the stretched caramel downward, leaving about an inch at the bottom of the pretzel uncovered. Press the ends of the caramel into the pretzel to secure. If your kitchen is warm, place the wrapped pretzels on a non-stick surface to avoid sticking before coating.
  3. Melt White Chocolate: In a medium microwave-safe bowl, combine white chocolate chips with vegetable oil. Microwave in 15-second intervals, stirring thoroughly after each interval until fully melted and smooth. Be careful not to overheat, as the chocolate can become chunky.
  4. Add Green Food Coloring: Stir about 6 drops of green food coloring into the melted white chocolate. Adjust the amount as needed depending on the brand and shade until the desired green color is achieved.
  5. Coat the Pretzel Rods: Using a spoon, scoop the green chocolate and cover the caramel-wrapped portion of each pretzel rod, starting about an inch from the base down to the tip, ensuring an even, smooth coating. Let excess chocolate drip back into the bowl.
  6. Decorate: Place the coated pretzels on parchment paper. Before the chocolate sets, sprinkle green sugar evenly over the rods and place one red candy heart between the caramel swirls on each rod for decoration.
  7. Set the Chocolate: Refrigerate the pretzel rods for about 10 minutes to allow the white chocolate coating to harden completely.

Notes

  • Store at room temperature up to 24 hours in an airtight container.
  • For longer storage, keep in the refrigerator airtight for up to 3 weeks.
  • Do not overheat the white chocolate to prevent it from becoming chunky.
  • The amount of food coloring may vary depending on the brand, adjust to reach your desired shade of green.
