Ingredients
Scale
Cookie Dough
- 17.5 ounce bag sugar cookie mix
- 4 ounce (½ 8-ounce package) cream cheese, softened
- ¼ cup (½ stick) salted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
Coloring and Decoration
- Red food coloring
- Green food coloring
- ½ cup Christmas sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Dough: In a large mixing bowl, use a stand or hand mixer to cream together the sugar cookie mix, softened cream cheese, butter, and egg until a soft, smooth dough forms and all ingredients are fully combined.
- Divide Dough: Split the dough evenly into two separate bowls to prepare for coloring.
- Color Red Dough: Add red food coloring to one bowl of dough and mix thoroughly until the dough achieves a deep, uniform red color.
- Color Green Dough: Add green food coloring to the second bowl of dough and mix until the dough is uniformly green.
- Coat with Sprinkles: Pour the Christmas sprinkles into a shallow bowl. Using a 1 Tablespoon cookie scoop, form balls of dough and gently roll each ball in the sprinkles to coat. Place the sprinkled dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie to allow for spreading.
- Note on Dough Texture: The dough will be soft, and it’s normal for the balls to flatten slightly when placing on the sheet. This helps achieve a tender cookie texture.
- Bake Cookies: Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 11 minutes, or until the cookies begin to firm up around the edges and do not collapse when gently touched on top.
- Cool Cookies: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 3 to 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve warm or at room temperature and enjoy the festive flavors.
Notes
- Storage: Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days to maintain freshness and texture.
- Freezing: For longer storage, freeze wrapped cookies in an airtight container or freezer-safe bag for up to 3 months.
- Tip: Use parchment paper or a silicone mat on the baking sheet for easier removal and cleanup.
