Description

This Easy Layered Taco Bake is a delicious and effortless casserole that combines seasoned ground beef, rich salsa con queso, and melted Mexican cheese between soft flour tortillas. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or casual gathering, it offers bold flavors and a satisfying comfort food experience in just a few simple steps.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Meat and Seasoning

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 3/4 cup water (or as called for on seasoning packet)

Salsa and Cheese

  • 1/2 cup salsa con queso
  • 2 cups shredded Mexican cheese blend (divided)

Wraps

  • 3 (8-inch) flour tortillas

Instructions

  1. Cook the beef: Brown and crumble the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until fully cooked, then drain excess grease.
  2. Season the meat: Add the taco seasoning packet and water (about 3/4 cup), stirring well. Continue cooking for a few minutes until the mixture thickens slightly. Turn off heat and stir in the salsa con queso until well combined.
  3. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F and prepare an 8-inch round baking pan by spraying it with nonstick cooking spray.
  4. Layer the ingredients: Place one flour tortilla at the bottom of the pan. Spread about one-third of the beef mixture over the tortilla, then sprinkle with one-third of the shredded cheese. Repeat layers: tortilla, beef mixture, cheese, until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of cheese on top.
  5. Bake: Transfer the assembled layers to the oven and bake at 350°F for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and edges are golden brown.
  6. Serve: Allow the taco bake to cool for a couple of minutes before slicing. Serve hot, topped with optional toppings like sour cream, chopped lettuce, or jalapeños.

Notes

  • For a milder flavor, reduce the taco seasoning or use a low-sodium variety.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • Feel free to add chopped cilantro or diced tomatoes on top before serving for added freshness.
  • This dish can be prepared in advance and reheated in the oven.
