Description

Celebrate the holidays with these festive Christmas Krispies Treats, combining the classic marshmallow and cereal base with vibrant holiday M&Ms and sprinkles for a sweet, crunchy, and colorful seasonal dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

Base Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 10 cups mini marshmallows, divided
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Cereal and Mix-ins

  • 6 cups rice krispies cereal
  • 3 cups rice chex cereal
  • 1 cup Christmas M&Ms
  • 2 teaspoons holiday sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Prepare Pan: Premeasure all ingredients before you begin cooking and line a 9×13-inch baking sheet with parchment paper and coat with non-stick spray; set aside.
  2. Melt Butter and Marshmallows: In a large saucepan, melt the butter, salt, and 8 cups of mini marshmallows together over low heat until smooth and fully combined.
  3. Add Vanilla and Remaining Ingredients: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Then add the remaining 2 cups of mini marshmallows along with the rice krispies and rice chex cereals, stirring until all dry ingredients are evenly coated with the marshmallow mixture.
  4. Fold in M&Ms and Sprinkles: Gently and quickly fold in 1 cup of Christmas M&Ms and 2 teaspoons of holiday sprinkles to distribute them without melting the candy colors.
  5. Transfer and Press Mixture: Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish. If desired, top with extra M&Ms and sprinkles. Use parchment paper or greased hands to gently and evenly press the mixture into the pan without over-compressing to keep treats soft.
  6. Set and Cut: Allow the treats to set at room temperature for 30 minutes or until firm. Then remove from the pan and cut into squares for serving.

Notes

  • Salted butter may be used as a substitute if unsalted butter is unavailable.
  • Corn chex cereal can substitute rice chex, but avoid wheat chex as it may affect texture and flavor.
  • Add M&Ms toward the end to prevent their colors from bleeding into the mixture.
  • Press the mixture gently when spreading in the pan to avoid creating tough, hard treats.
  • Store the treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
