Instructions
- Prepare Donut Pan: Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Spray a donut pan with non-stick cooking spray and use a paper towel to evenly coat the entire donut well to ensure donuts do not stick.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a smaller bowl, whisk together the flour, nutmeg, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until fully combined. Set aside.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, beat together the milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and vegetable oil using a whisk or spatula until smooth.
- Incorporate Dry into Wet: Gradually add the dry flour mixture into the wet ingredients, mixing gently by hand with a spatula just until combined to avoid overmixing and ensure lightness.
- Fill Donut Wells: Spoon the batter evenly into the prepared donut wells. Use a small spatula to smooth out the tops for uniform baking.
- Bake Donuts: Bake in the preheated oven for 11-12 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let donuts cool completely in the pan for 10 minutes.
- Release Donuts: Once cooled, invert the donut pan and gently tap it against the counter to release the donuts. Repeat this process with any remaining batter.
- Prepare White Glaze: In a bowl, combine powdered sugar and milk, stirring until smooth. Divide glaze into three bowls; leave one white, add red food coloring to another, and green food coloring to the last.
- Prepare Chocolate Glaze: In a separate bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, cocoa powder, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and glossy.
- Glaze Donuts: Dip each cooled donut into your preferred glaze, letting excess drip off. Allow glaze to set for a few minutes to firm up.
- Decorate Donuts: Sprinkle desired decorations such as Christmas jimmie sprinkles, nonpareils, mini M&Ms, candy eyeballs, and pretzels following your preferred festive patterns like plaid, Christmas lights, reindeer, or tie-dye present styles.
Notes
- Ensure not to overmix the batter to keep donuts light and fluffy.
- Use a toothpick test to check for doneness to avoid under or over baking.
- Glaze each donut while fully cooled to prevent melting.
- Feel free to customize decorations to fit your holiday theme or dietary preferences.
- Donut batter can be made ahead and refrigerated for a few hours before baking.
