Description

Delicious and elegant chocolate covered strawberries, perfect for any celebration or a simple sweet treat. Fresh strawberries are dipped in smooth melted chocolate and optionally decorated with white chocolate drizzle and various toppings for a delightful dessert that’s easy to make at home.

Ingredients

Scale

Strawberries

  • 1 lb fresh strawberries

Chocolate

  • 10 oz chocolate (bittersweet, semi-sweet, milk, or white chocolate)*
  • 3 oz white chocolate, optional

Optional Toppings

  • Pink gel icing color, optional
  • Sprinkles, optional
  • Oreo crumbs, optional
  • Any additional toppings, optional

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Strawberries: Wash the strawberries thoroughly and then dry them completely using several paper towels. Removing all moisture is crucial as any leftover water can prevent the chocolate from adhering properly or cause the chocolate to seize.
  2. Prepare Workspace: Lay out parchment paper on a flat surface to set the dipped strawberries on for drying. Prepare any toppings you intend to use for decorating your strawberries after dipping them.
  3. Melt the Chocolate: Place the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 10-20 second intervals, stirring well between each interval to ensure even melting. Avoid overheating to prevent the chocolate from seizing or streaking when dipping.
  4. Dip Strawberries: Hold each strawberry by the stem and dip it into the melted chocolate. Gently shake off any excess chocolate to avoid clumps and drips.
  5. Add Toppings: If using, immediately dip the chocolate-covered strawberry into your prepared toppings, then place it on the parchment paper to set and dry.
  6. Drizzle White Chocolate: If desired, melt the white chocolate following the same microwave method. You can add gel icing color to tint it. Using a piping bag or a small ziplock bag with a snipped corner, drizzle the white chocolate over the set strawberries for a decorative finish.
  7. Set and Serve: Allow the chocolate to firm up completely before serving. These strawberries are best enjoyed the same day they are made to avoid condensation and texture changes but can be stored for a short time with some potential quality loss.

Notes

  • Use baking or melting wafers such as Ghirardelli dark chocolate melting wafers or Baker’s baking bar chocolate for best results; avoid regular chocolate chips or eating chocolate bars, as they can seize or not melt smoothly.
  • Ensure strawberries are completely dry before dipping to maintain chocolate adhesion and smooth appearance.
  • The chocolate covered strawberries are best served fresh, as longer storage can cause condensation and texture issues.
  • The white chocolate drizzle and toppings like sprinkles or Oreo crumbs are optional but add visual appeal and texture.
