Ingredients
Scale
Garlic Butter
- 4 Tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
Sandwich
- ¼ cup parmesan cheese, thinly shredded or grated
- 4 slices large sourdough bread
- 2-4 slices provolone cheese
- 2-4 slices sharp cheddar cheese
- 2-4 slices gouda cheese
Instructions
- Prepare garlic butter: In a small bowl, mix together the softened unsalted butter and minced garlic cloves until fully combined. Set aside to allow the garlic flavor to infuse the butter.
- Butter and assemble bread: Heat a flat skillet over medium heat on the stovetop. Spread the garlic butter evenly on one side of each slice of sourdough bread. Evenly divide the parmesan cheese and press it gently into the buttered sides of each bread slice.
- Assemble the sandwiches and grill: Place two slices of the bread on the hot skillet, buttered side down. Layer 1-2 slices each of provolone, sharp cheddar, and gouda cheese evenly on top of these bread slices. Place the remaining slices of bread on top with the buttered side facing up, forming sandwiches. Cook for approximately 3-4 minutes until the bottom slices turn golden brown and the cheese starts melting.
- Flip and cook second side: Carefully flip the sandwiches and continue grilling until the other side is golden brown and the cheese inside is completely melted, about another 3-4 minutes. Serve the 4 Cheese Garlic Grilled Cheese sandwiches immediately while hot and gooey.
Notes
- This recipe uses large slices of sourdough bread. Adjust the number of cheese slices based on the size of your bread or personal cheese preference.
- You can vary the cheese blend to your favorites, but ensure a mix of meltable cheeses for best texture.
- To keep the recipe vegetarian, check labels to use vegetarian-friendly cheeses that do not contain animal rennet.
- Medium heat and a flat skillet are key to achieving perfectly toasted bread without burning.
